Kaanapali Alii

My family has been staying at the Kaanapali Alii when visiting Maui since the 1980‚’s. We go back time and time again because it is the best place for a family to stay. We have also had 4 family reunions there over the years, and as our family has grown in size it has become more and more like the only place for a family reunion for us. The first reunion had 19 people and the latest one 36, as our family has grown over the years. Those trips are some of our most treasured family memories
The Kaanapali Alii has been acknowledged over the years by many travel magazines as the place for a family to stay
The property is in a prime location on Kaanapali Beach between the Westin and Marriott resorts. Over the years there has been beach erosion as at many other beaches, however, the Alii still has the best beach area of any property on Kaanapali beach. The property is a condo property with one and two bedroom units. In addition most units have an alcove that has a bed or hide a bed that works as an additional bedroom! The one bedrooms allow 4 guests and the two bedroom units allow 6 guests. The kitchens are great, the units are very clean and the property itself is very well kept.
There is a pool with many chairs that seem to fill up early each day. There are stacks of chairs on the beach that also go fast and cabanas that can be rented on an as available basis. We love the beach, after all this is Hawaii! There have always been an endless supply of clean towels and jugs of ice water and lemonade for all to quench their thirst while hanging out on the beach. One of our favorite things about the Alii are the oceanfront grills where large groups can barbecue and all eat together at the surrounding tables. This works great for an evening when you all want to be together and can move around more freely than in a restaurant.
Whalers Village is a short walk down the beach. This is perfect for kids in their teens who can walk down there by themselves to shop, eat or just hang out. I don’t know of another area in Hawaii outside of Waikiki that has this added amenity for kids.
There are many resorts in Maui and Hawaii that have more spectacular pools than the Alii, however, that is a small price to pay for the ability to spread out in a condo versus being packed in a hotel room. I can promise you if you stay there once you will be drawn back again and again as we have.
