Kauai Vacations

Beautiful Kauai waterfall.Kauai is the oldest of the major islands of the Hawaiian chain. It is 33 miles long by 25 miles wide. Kauai is known as the Garden Isle because "lush" is the best adjective to describe it...there flowers are everywhere! Kauai also receives more rain than the other islands which contributes to the lushness. The natural beauty of this island is unequaled, which is why so many movies have been filmed here, from Blue Hawaii to Jurassic Park. Kauai looks beautiful on film and a Kauai vacation package will prove it when you develop your vacation photos!

There are 50 miles of sand beaches here, however there are no black sand beaches because Kauai is too old to have them. 97 percent of Kauai is rural and the residents are as proud of this as they are about the law that no building can stand higher than a palm tree.

Kauai Vacation Planning

Visitors arriving in Kauai via a flight land in Lihue. Most visitors spend no time in Lihue, but it is definitely worth spending some time here while on the island. The Kauai Museum is here along with a ton of good restaurants where the locals eat traditional Hawaiian cuisine.

Poipu is one of the most popular tourist areas on the island, mainly due to its sunny southern shore and numerous accommodations and great restaurants. The Sheraton Kauai and Grand Hyatt Kauai and Spa are the two major hotels in this area. There are also numerous houses and condos for short term Hawaii vacation rental.

The Coconut Coast can be found between Poipu and Princeville and Kapaa is the bustling center here. Mt. Waialeale forms a ravishing backdrop to the coast. It sucks the clouds away from the coastline, leaving the beaches sunny. Mt. Waialeale's summit is the wettest place in the world, receiving 40 feet of rain each year, so natural waterfalls can be found everywhere. The crater of the mountain is one of the favorite spots for helicopter rides on the island.

The North Shore with Princeville and Hanalei as its main tourist spots is one of the greenest parts of the island. It rains more here than in Poipu or the Coconut Coast, however, the beauty of this area makes it a favorite place to stay. The Princeville Resort has dazzling views of Hanalei Bay from most rooms and restaurants. From any beach in Hanalei the rear of the Princeville Resort appears to be built into the ocean.

Kauai is loved by honeymooners for the romance that is felt everywhere on the island. Maybe this is the island to visit to rekindle romance or take a second honeymoon!
