Maui Vacations
When many people think of Hawaii they think Maui. Whether they are interested in a Maui wedding, Maui honeymoon, family reunion, group tour or just a simple vacation, a Maui vacation has it all.
Maui is the second largest of the island chain that makes up the Hawaiian Islands. Maui is 48 miles long and 26 miles wide at the widest point. Maui vacations may be the preferred choice because Maui has more swimmable beaches than any of the other islands. Along with the familiar gold sand beaches, adventurers will also find red, green and black sand beaches.
Maui Vacation Planning
Most of the resorts are found in West Maui from Kaanapali to Kapalua and in South Maui from Kihei to Wailea and Makena. The North shore is known for having the best surfing beaches, private homes, and bed and breakfast.
Kihei is the spot for budget travelers as it is filled with low cost accommodations. Kihei is fronted by six miles of beautiful beaches and parks. Beyond Kihei is Wailea with both reasonably priced accommodations and five star resorts. One of the great features of this area is a 1-1/2 mile beach walk that stretches from the Fairmont Kea Lani to the Renaissance Beach Resort.
Most of Kaanapali, in West Maui, is a long stretch of gold sand beach with large resorts and the condos The Whaler and Kaanapali Alii. Here, travelers can also find a beautiful beach walk starting at the Hyatt and ending at the Sheraton Maui. A distinctive black rock sits in front of the Sheraton Maui and on the other side of the rock are the remaining Kaanapali resorts and condos where many Maui vacationers return for subsequent trips. The Westin Ocean Villas and Royal Lahaina Resort boast the best beaches here. For visitors looking for a more intimate view of Maui, north of Kaanapali are Kahana, Napili and Kapalua with secluded cove beaches and winding roads.
While most of Maui's vacationers stay on the beaches, a visit to the upcountry is a delight. Agriculture and ranching thrive there and flowers are the bumper crop. The road to Hana is a highlight to a Maui vacation that visitors should consider. Expect twisting, turning roads, over 50 bridges, waterfalls and rainforests. At the end of the road is the isolated town of Hana. The Hotel Hana Maui was the first resort built on Maui and remains one of the most special.
